The hostory of wood briquettes
Wood briquettes are one of the most convenient biofuel products for burning. They are made from compressed sawdust, have low moisture content, and a high density. They differ from popular wood pellets only in their product form, as they are not cylindrical but rather look like bricks. Compared to firewood, wood briquettes deliver more heat and produce less ash.
WHEN DID THE POPULAR RUF BRIQUETTES EMERGE
Everyone who has dealt with wood briquettes is familiar with the RUF brand. When did it emerge? In 1982, Hans Ruf patented his first hydraulic press for organic waste. This made him the inventor of the widely known briquetting system we know today. The mechanical pressing system has been continuously improved to achieve the best degree of waste compression. More than 5,000 pressing systems have been sold in over 100 countries.
HOW ARE WOOD BRIQUETTES MADE
Briquettes are blocks made from wood sawdust and other by-products of wood processing, which are used as fuel. The sawdust is compressed using specialized production lines and presses. Briquettes are often produced by the same wood industry companies that manufacture other wood products. Compressed sawdust wood briquettes commonly come in cylindrical, RUF, and PINI KAY shapes. The quality of briquette compression is important, as well as the raw material - it is essential that there are no chemical additives in the briquettes.
ADVANTAGES OF WOOD BRIQUETTES
Wood briquettes have significantly lower moisture content than firewood, which allows them to burn more efficiently and produce more heat. This results in higher energy output and less ash residue. The low moisture content also means that the chimney is less likely to get clogged. Briquettes are easy to store as they can be stacked on pallets for delivery to consumers. When storing briquettes, it is important to ensure dry storage conditions.
CHARACTERISTICS OF WOOD BRIQUETTES
Wood sawdust briquettes are a solid organic fuel. They belong to the category of biofuels because they are made from by-products of wood processing, which is considered renewable energy sources. The CO2 balance of wood briquettes used for combustion is close to zero, as the amount of CO2 released during burning is approximately equal to the amount absorbed during photosynthesis. The standard calorific value of the product is 4500-4800 kcal/kg, moisture content is 5-8%, and ash content is 0.5-1.3%.
